Wang’ombe lifts IBM trophy

Home player Vincent Wang’ombe posted a massive 43-stable points to win the IBM Centenary Golf Day held at the Limuru Country Club beating a massive field of 238 golfers.

Wangombe, a handicap-21 golfer teed off early in the morning, battling both a way-ward swing and the Limuru fog. Over his first nine holes, Wangombe returned a seven-over par gross score for 21-stable ford points, a fete he managed to repeat on the second nine for 22-stable ford points and a total of 43 points, the winning score for the day.

John Paul posted an impressive 40 points to claim the men winner’s prize while Joseph Kihanya was the runner up on 39 points beating Dan Kangethe on count-back.

The Lady Winner was Nelly Kairu on 39 points followed by Felista Koki on 37 points. The guest winner was Alex Gitari on an excellent 42 points. From the IBM family, Pieter Loubser was the staff winner with 39 points.

Dasani gala

Meanwhile, the team of Shileen Nanji, Shamil Nanji, Vereen Gudka and Zeeshan Malik won the 10th round of Dasani Golf Gala held at Nakuru Golf Club.

Nanji, a handicap-9 anchored his team with a magnificent score of 39 points. He started strongly posting impressive 22 stableford points on his first nine holes before losing his swing on the second nine, posting an average 17 points.

Gudka who was one of the favourites owing to his excellent performance in 2010 edition of the gala, played conservatively, posting 37 points.

Handicap-5 Nanji garnered 35 points to bring his teams total to 111 team points. Malik had a rather rough time on the slopes of the Menengai Crater and he was the team’s weakest link with a lacklustre 26-points.

The winners qualify for Dasani Golf Gala grand finale and an opportunity to battle for the Tour Championship in Georgia, USA.

The second team was that of Wahome Wanjohi, Nakuru Club captain Steven Mugunyu and Andrew Waititu. Wanjohi anchored his team with an excellent 39 points. Mugunyu contributed 37 points and Waititu 35 for a team total of 111 points. However, the fourth cog in this team, Boniface Mukuria failed to show up and consequently his score was recorded as "zero".

MUMIAS: David Sate (handicap 14) managed to stage a total of 41 stableford points (21+20) to become the overall winner of the Mumias Sugar Golf Day that attracted 99 golfer’s drawn from Nyanza, Mumias, Kakamega and Kisii. In the second position was handicap 15 DO Ajulu playing Handicap who also managed 41 stableford points (22+19) but lost on countback to Sate.

ROYAL: GM Njiri recorded 42 points to emerge overall winner during Bank of Africa Golf Day at Royal Nairobo Golf Club. D Pkosing was men winner on 40 points while KS Syan was runner-up after collecting 38 points. The Lady winner was KJ Lee who beat Dorcas Munge on countback after they tied on 38 points.
