Why sexy city tycoon bewitched workers to eat sawdust

If you thought hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, try stealing from one. Two male employees of a Nairobi firm found themselves ‘feasting’ on sawdust and grass after their boss unleashed a witchdoctor to cast a spell on them for stealing merchandise from her company.

The two employees of Lilai Power Company in South B, Nairobi, went bonkers and turned to the sawdust on July 20 after the grace period their employer, Cate Wema, had issued to get back her items elapsed.

Peter Gitau, 21, and Silvester Odhiambo, 23, admitted to stealing and selling copper wires and other items estimated to cost Sh3 million on June 27. Looking sickly, they mumbled incomprehensibly as they reached for more sawdust and grass as their shattered relatives prayed and comforted them.

Wema told The Nairobian she suspected her employees were involved in the theft and decided to turn to a witchdoctor to teach them and other workers a lesson.

“They must bring back my items, pay me Sh3 million or lead me to the buyer if they want to survive. Those items are worth the kind of money I am not ready to just let go,” said Wema.

Gitau and Odhiambo started eating sawdust and grass in the morning until way past mid-day, when Wema intervened, ordered that they be kept away from their new-found ‘food’ and warned those who are not related to them from touching or giving them water.

“Only one relative should touch them. The rest of you keep off. If you give them water, be ready for their instant death,” she warned as the relatives shrunk in fear.

Other employees and residents watched the proceedings from a distance as Gitau’s relatives prayed and propped him up with foam oozing from his mouth. Odhiambo meanwhile was leaning on a post and gazing at the crowd, his hands making weird movements.

They shocked police when they started demonstrating what was believed to be how they sneaked out the items. Odhiambo walked towards the door to a point where they could have raised the items up the perimeter wall. Gitau meanwhile went through the motions of unwrapping and coiling something.

Late in the evening, however, they revealed that they sold the stuff to a woman identified as Christine who allegedly is Wema’s friend and regular customer. A shocked Wema started to shout; “Who? My friend Christine? I can’t believe this! She is dead meat now. She had better bring my things back!” The Nairobian learnt that Christine has been begging Wema to spare her the curse and agree to a settlement.

Our sources also revealed that top police officers who arrived at the scene studied the situation and realised that there was nothing they could do with their guns and intimidating looks, and beat a hasty retreat. Now that’s one ‘crime’ the police are not trained how to handle at their Kiganjo college!
