Self discipline habits to adopt in 2020

“Self-discipline is the ability you have to control yourself, stay on track and do what is right. You must have self-discipline to become successful in anything you do.” That is a quote by Strati Georgopoulos, Director of Strategic Partnerships-RTG Group Inc. Based on his highlights on self discipline and its association with a prosperous career, here are expounded pointers to keep you motivated at work even when you feel you get the hang of everything around the office.

1. Wake up on time

This rejuvenates your mind and monitors your thinking process throughout the day and keeps you going each day. It is an opportunity to make a fresh start. Have a written manifest that you are looking to achieve and set out to achieve it. The ability to get yourself up and out the door on time to get to work is a good trait. If you are always late then, you are likely to get fired so there is an external push.

2. Act respectfully towards others

Every person has a perception of everyone they meet during the day. That person who was rude in the meeting, the one who wouldn’t stop talking, the polite one and even the one who kept interrupting you. With self-discipline, you will understand that impressions matter and you will be respectful towards everyone regardless of anything. The ability to examine your thoughts, character and emotions can make you be more productive.

 3. Eat healthy

A person who chooses to eat healthily most of the times, usually demonstrates excellent self-discipline. There are a lot of things to eat that are not good for you. By saying no to bad eating habits, you learn the aspect of self-control and how to resist short term pleasures in exchange of a gain for the long term. Being able to make reasonable decisions in a time where the environment is uncertain implies that you can make sound decisions and act without getting altered by other forces.

 4. Daily exercise

Exercise is seen as getting an addiction but a healthy one for many. Habits and routine can be monotonous and boring leading to one being uncreative and unproductive. In need of fresh and new skills? Try exercising. It will keep you determined both in and out of the office and at the end of the day show off your achieved goals.

5. Meet deadlines

A job description and annual key performance indicators may require a lot from you. Meeting and making deadlines are what is majorly required of you. Show that you are a self-starter without supervision or influence from another party. Build your focus and endurance on work and anything that require or rather demands attention and maintain it.

6. Avoid temptation

A self-disciplined person doesn’t allow temptations to be a factor in what they do every day because they work to avoid it. If you want to save money, they don’t go on shopping sprees or engage in spending habits but rather come up with plans on how to save a bit of their income. This gives a person the willpower to overcome negative behaviour despite the motivation to continue the behavior.

7. Follow through

Making promises is an assurance that you will follow them through without a reminder. It is what is called a principled behaviour. Personal resilience is the ability to retain your discipline in the face of significant stress. It also enables you to handle difficult criticism that generates strong emotions without acting them out in a negative way.

8. Create good habits

The best way to stick to any goal is to create good habits surrounding that goal. However, it doesn’t mean that you don’t get to have fun in what you have set to achieve. The ability to let go of weakness and do what you know is right is the best of self-discipline. It doesn’t matter if you’re at work or at home; being able to control yourself is essential to your happiness and success. Difficulties need not affect your happiness because what really matters is the response you give.
