Nairobi Deputy Governor Anne Kananu will today (Tuesday) hold her first cabinet meeting.

This is even as the county government kicks of a public participation exercise to get the public's views on the state of service delivery in the capital.

As her first task, Kananu will hold the cabinet meeting which will be the first since 2019 when Sonko last called for one before the courts barred him from accessing his office over graft allegations.

This was confirmed by Health Services CEC Hitan Majevdia.

“We have been told there will be a cabinet meeting on Tuesday at City Hall but the official invitation and the agenda will be communicated later in the day,” said Majevdia.

Majevdia further revealed that after Tuesday's meeting, the cabinet will proceed to Mombasa on Wednesday for a meeting with Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) team with the agenda being to formulate a service delivery strategy for the county.

The Mombasa retreat will be the second following the first one that happened between NMS and the Nairobi County Assembly in Mombasa last week that was also discussing the state of county affairs.

“We will be traveling to Mombasa after the meeting to meet NMS guys. The meeting will revolve around how best we can collaborate in service delivery in the city, issues around the transferred functions and other teething problems currently facing the county,” added Majevdia.

Those in attendance will be NMS Director General Major General Mohamed Badi, Speaker Mutura and DG Kananu.

This comes just over a week after Mutura handed over the instruments of power to Kananu shortly after she was vetted and approved by the county assembly.

However, the High Court stopped Kananu’s swearing-in as governor pending the hearing of a petition filed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC).

The court directed that the matter be forwarded to the acting Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu who is expected to assign the case to a bench of an uneven number of at least three judges.

“Pending further orders of a multi bench and with the view of maintaining the prevailing status quo, a temporary injuction is hereby issued restraining the respondents, their agents and or servants from swearing-in as Governor of Nairobi County pending hearing of the application,” read the court order.
