Two people crashed to death along Oyugis-Ahero road

Two people were killed in a grisly road accident involving a motorcycle and a lorry in Homa Bay County over the weekend.

The two, who included a boda boda rider and his passenger, died on Saturday evening along Oyugis -Ahero road.

The rider identified as 20-year-old Kevin Omondi and his passenger Sophie Anyango died on the spot near Ringa trading centre in Rachuonyo East Sub-County.

Witnesses claimed that the driver of the lorry had been overtaking the motorcycle before it hit it and ran over the two victims and killed them instantly.

Both the motorbike and lorry were moving from Ringa towards Chabera market during the accident.

Meanwhile, a man who was the second pillion passenger survived the tragedy with serious injuries. He was rushed to Rachuonyo South Sub-county hospital for medication.

The driver was arrested and detained at Oriwo police post. His vehicle was also towed to the police post.

Rachuonyo East Sub-County Police Commander Charles Barasa said they were investigating the matter to ensure appropriate action is taken.

“Let road users observe traffic rules to avoid accidents on our roads. We will take appropriate action regarding the incident,” Barasa said.

The bodies have been moved to Rachuonyo South Sub-county hospital morgue.
