11 suspected Al Shabaab and two KDF soldiers killed in botched attack

Lamu, Kenya: Eleven Al Shabaab militants and 2 KDF soldiers were killed in attempted attack on a military camp at Baure in Lamu County. Severals weapons were recovered in the early morning incident that was quickly thwarted by the KDF.

The incident happened this morning at around 5 a.m. when suspected Al Shabaab (Ugus) terrorists attempted an attack on the KDF military camp at Baure, 39 km North of Baragoni.

According to military spokesman Col David Obonyo, the attack was aggressively repulsed. During the firefight, 11 al Shabbab terrorists, including two fighters of Caucasian origin were neutralised. Several others fled with injuries towards Boni Forest and are still being pursued.

Regrettably, KDF lost two soldiers during the firefight.

An assorted numbers of weapons including 13 AK47s, 5 RPGs and 8 Grenades were recovered.

The military sends an appeal to the locals in the area to report to the security agencies anybody seeking medical assistance from bullet wounds or any suscipicious looking individuals who might attempt to hide in the area.

This attack comes when Kenya is marking one year since an attack at Mpeketoni, Lamu which left at least 48 people dead.
