Kenya’s biosafety agency roots for adoption of GMOs

NAIROBI: The controversy surrounding the safety of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in Kenya could soon be resolved after a stakeholders’ workshop ratified a Biosafety regulation framework.

A three-day workshop convened at Maanzoni Lodge in Machakos County by the National Biosafety Authority (NBA), which brought together various stakeholders, resolved to lobby for the lifting of the ban on GMOs imposed three years ago, which could pave way for environmental and commercial release of the products.
