Farah Maalim slams politicians over banditry

Kenya: Former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim has accused politicians of perpetrating cattle rustling in the country.

Maalim said it is unacceptable for poor Kenyans to be pitted against each other through cattle rustling where many are killed yet perpetrators remain free.

“The cattle raids experienced in North Eastern are perpetuated by politicians full of talk and less action. We need to change as a country or else we will be doomed,” he said.

Maalim was speaking at the weekend at the Nairobi Serena during Iftar (fast breaking ceremony).

The occasion was organised by Pillar of Hope, an NGO, to raise funds for the marginalised communities living in northern Kenya. It was attended by the Belgian and Iranian ambassadors.

Pillar of Hope’s leader Mr Jaffer Isaack had in 2011 declared his intention to run for presidency but withdrew from the race discontent with politics.

Last year, Jaffer walked 500km from Mombasa to Nairobi to create awareness against tribalism, violence and corruption.
