Counties to operate on temporary offices, says PS

County governments will start their operations from temporary structures after the General Election due to delays in funding for permanent offices.

Public Works PS John Lonyangapuo said the ministry is currently working on designs for the temporary structures to house constitutional offices in all 47 counties.

Speaking at Nyangusu in Nyamache District while presiding over a partial handing over of a police administration block, the PS noted that all 47 counties lacked basic infrastructure for governors and county assemblies.

“Construction of county offices was meant to start two years ago but this was possible due to financial hitches but the standard designs for these buildings are ready. We sent designers to countries having similar government structures and came up with the designs but it is not possible to have them ready by March next year,” said Lonyangapuo.

The PS, who was accompanied by the ministry’s Chief Quantity Surveyor Moses Nyakiongora, said the Government would develop county government infrastructure at a cost of about Sh6 billion.

He said the ministry had completed 225 projects including police housing and DCs’ offices in the first phase of its plan.
