The Business Coach stirring up struggling SMEs

Want to ride out the storms in business? I’m here to help

KTN Home has a new show that’s looking to shake things up in the SME sector and grow small businesses. The Business Coach is hosted by Ian Dennis, and he shares why you should be tuning in to KTN Home on Fridays at 7.30pm.

Let’s get right to it; what’s The Business Coach about?

It’s a reality business show where I meet entrepreneurs who are running small businesses, find out the challenges they face in their day-to-day operations, and then link them up with an entrepreneur running a similar business but on a larger scale for advice.

How did the idea for the show come about?

I have had the privilege of being mentored all through my journey in business, which started from when I was in campus. This helped me manoeuvre and face the challenges that come with entrepreneurship.

I thought this background would be a good premise for a show, so I shot a pilot with a friend of mine who runs a clinic business in Syokimau and posted it on YouTube. The feedback was quite positive, so I made it a goal to one day have it on TV, and a year later, here we are.

You don’t have a background in media, so how did you end up hosting The Business Coach?

I pursued a degree in commerce at Strathmore University, where I specialised in accounting and minored in entrepreneurship, but I’ve always had a passion for media since I’m an extrovert. When I started the show, I didn’t know it would actually get this far. I just recorded my friend and I having a genuine conversation about his business, and I uploaded it on YouTube. The response I got was overwhelming and that birthed the TV show.

What makes it different from the other business shows?

The Business Coach is a first of its kind because its main focus is on the growth of the SME owner. We’re not only telling their story, but also helping them solve their day-to-day business challenges through offering the room for interaction with a seasoned entrepreneur.

What can small businesses expect to gain from the show?

Statistics indicate that very few businesses live to see their third birthday. Through this show, small business owners can learn from other entrepreneurs who managed to beat the statistics and ride the entrepreneurial boat when storms hit them.

Viewers should expect thought-provoking conversations and lessons that will help them start, run and grow their businesses.
