Blend of warm colours at Karen Guest House

By Caroline Nyanga

Set on an acre of manicured lawns, the Karen Guest House is a luxurious boutique hotel situated off Lang’ata Road into the lush Nairobi suburb of Karen. It is suitable for short-term rentals, business travellers, holidaymakers and honeymooners.

Its proximity to the city centre (about 15km away) and the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (about 10km away) makes it a prime getaway.

The rich bright colours inside the guesthouse blend well together making the place appear cool.

From the walls to the unique antiques in almost every part of the hotel (in the restaurant, apartments, lounge, conference room and other rooms) is a harmonious amalgamation of colours and designs.

The roof tiles are a colour close to peach and mahogany brown blends, which match the hotel’s carpet and cushions.

At the lounge and restaurant, rich brown wooden seats that give the house a classy touch surround a chocolate dining wooden table. From the wall to the curtains and the upholstery on the seats, the furnishing is inimitable.

Manicured lawns

The rooms and apartments, which are all self-contained are lit with plasma TVs. Double rooms boast of splendid bathtubs while single rooms have showers. Each room is designed for a special purpose including family gatherings, dining and television viewing. In all the rooms, the main theme colours are peach, brown and cream.

A neatly done garden extends to the beautifully manicured lawns, which promise a perfect relaxation and unwinding retreat.

Live bands

From the guesthouse, one can easily access the Nairobi National Park, Langa’ta Botanical Gardens, the Karen Blixen Museums, the Giraffe Centre, Karen Country and Golf Club and many other scenic and recreation sites.

For those who want to cook their own meals, Karen Guest House offers two well-equipped self-catering apartments that provide homely comfort in a serene environment. Transport to the airport or game parks can be availed upon request.

Guests can also relax in the lounge and catch up on the day’s events or watch sports on the screens. Other goodies include tasty buffet menus courtesy of the professional chef.

On weekends, select live bands entertain guests. Other fun facilities include swimming, aerobics, steam bath, sauna and gym.
