Bespoke soapstone elevates corporate awards with handcrafted sculptures

The unveiling showcased several exquisitely sculpted pieces, crafted with precision by experienced artisans, both male and female. As guests admired the collection, Bespoke Soapstone's Chief Vision Officer Mogusu Momanyi, emphasized the craftsmanship behind the creations. "These pieces have been sculptured, chiseled, sandwashed, and polished by seasoned artisans. Each one reflects the highest quality of sculpting, now awarded to the winners of this week's golf tournament," said Momanyi. The event's Guest of Honour, Zainab Hawa Bangura-USG and Director General of UNON-shared a heartfelt personal connection to Bespoke Soapstone, describing her first encounter with the artistry as "love at first sight." She recounted how she first learned about Kisii soapstone during a work trip to Kisumu, thanks to a recommendation from her communications assistant. Curious, she made an impromptu visit-and was instantly captivated. "I was amazed at the exhibition display. Later, I received a catalog showcasing these handmade sculptures, each crafted by patient artisans, including community women. That moment stayed with me," Bangura recalled. Touched by their skill and dedication, Bangura felt compelled to support the artisans. "I knew I had to do something. That's how I met this young man, Momanyi, saw his dream, and committed to helping him realize it. The rest is history-I am here now." She further advocated integrating sculpting into educational curricula, believing it could produce internationally recognised artisans, perhaps even engineers, emerging from the humble craft. The newly unveiled trophies made history at Muthaiga Golf Club, marking the first time winners were awarded Kisii soapstone sculptures in a tournament. "This exclusive event introduces a groundbreaking idea-blending heritage and innovation through corporate trophies made from Kisii soapstone. It's a significant milestone in craftsmanship and corporate recognition," Momanyi noted. Muthaiga Golf Club Captain, Eric Malonza, echoed the excitement, acknowledging the shift from conventional trophies to the elegance of handcrafted sculptures. "The winners and guests were thrilled by these beautifully sculpted pieces. Their precision and artistry prove that Bespoke's sculptures have a rightful place in the corporate world," said Malonza. Seated across the room were six men and two women-the day's champions. The trophies they received were crafted by artisans who poured their skill and passion into every detail. "Every piece tells a story. Our artisans breathe life into the soapstone, carving passion, love, and beauty, blending tradition with innovation," said Joshua Isoe, Bespoke's head sculptor. Ten winners were presented with special soapstone trophies, reinforcing the venture's commitment to empowering community women and young sculptors. "Through this initiative, many artisans-especially women and youth-have found a sustainable way to earn a living. Bespoke is proud to champion Kisii soapstone craftsmanship," said Isoe. Momanyi affirmed the company's dedication to merging heritage, craftsmanship, and sustainability. "We focus on empowering communities by creating sustainable income streams." Among the winners, Bhavnish Chandaria secured the top men's position with a gross score of 72 points, followed by Paul Muema (43 points) and Kanyi Gachoka (41 points). Other awarded winners included Susan Kanyora (39 points), Tanish Gudhka (37 points), and Meera Mandaliya (36 points). Meanwhile, Robert Ondhowe and Linus Gitahi clinched awards for 1st nine net and 2nd nine net, respectively, their victories marked with these unique, handcrafted trophies-the first of their kind in Muthaiga's tournament history.
