Nacada, in collaboration with a Kisii-based CBO, has launched a tree-planting campaign and an art performance programme to discourage youth from engaging in drug abuse.

The officials advised the youth to avoid drug use and instead participate in the performing arts, as well as to support President William Ruto's tree-planting initiative.

Kisii All Inclusive CBO collaborated with Nacada to educate over 500 youth from Bonchari Sub-County on the dangers of drug abuse and alcoholism in society.

Kisii has been one of the most affected areas by drug and substance abuse, particularly among young people.

Ex-Governor James Ongwae, in collaboration with Nacada, opened a treatment and rehabilitation centre in the Kiamwasi area of Kitutu Chache South in June 2021. Because it lacks a perimeter wall, the facility has yet to be used.

NACADA Nyanza Regional Director Esther Okenye said at Itierio ELCK Hall that most drug and alcohol addicts face stigma.

"Kenyans should treat those struggling with addiction as patients in need of assistance. We are leading the fight against alcoholism in children and the elderly."
