Sherlyne Anyango: I made over Sh30million from Club Covid, private shows

Sherlyne Anyango was a popular figure online when the world was grappling with the effects of Covid-19.

She featured on Xtian Dela's Club Covid, an online show on Instagram, where skimpily dressed women would dance and seek votes from those watching.

Through this, Sherlyne gained popularity due to her 'dance moves' and would then venture into other private shows.

Speaking to Presenter Ali, Sherlyne said she made a lot of money at the time that she managed to buy a Sh25 million house.

She also built a house for her parents and still had cash to set up businesses on the side.

"I bought this house. It was around Sh25 million, in cash. I was doing private video shows and people would pay handsomely.

"I also built a house for my parents and it was Sh4 million and then I furnished the whole of this house... I made over Sh30 million in a year," she said.

Sherlyne, however, said she regrets how she portrayed herself on the show and looking back, she thinks she could have handled herself with more decorum.

"Club Covid gave me a lot of money and it really helped me but I was butt naked on the show so that is not a good thing. I don't like how I portrayed myself on that show," she said.

She also explained how her photos caused a strain in her relationship as her fiance's family looked up her photos and advised their son not to marry her.

"I was to get married at some point but the guy's family looked up my name and they got to see some of the things I was doing on Xtian Dela's show.

"The mzungu was in love with me but the family said that was a red flag and they advised their son not to marry me. That was an eye-opener for me," she said.

Adding: "I never thought it (exposing my nakedness) would affect me in the long run. It was just casual. Everyone makes mistakes, just that mine were recorded."

She believes she might have lost some good deals due to the person she was portraying online but she believes she is now enlightened and wiser.

The fame came with lots of societal pressure and Sherlyne divulged that at some point she began using drugs.

The fast-paced life with lots of cash for a 23-year-old was a bit too much and she lost herself along the way.

"Covid period was the best for me. I got a lot of money. I could wake up and just be walking on money. My friends really enjoyed it but the problem is I got into drugs because I had not seen such kind of life before.

"It was so hard to come out of it," she said.

Sherlyne also said that she is married to a white man but they are working on a divorce since they have been apart for three months and communication has been an issue.

She also hinted at family feuds as she described her relationship status as complicated.

"I first went for Naiboi's event in the US then I met this guy who was ready to marry me, he still married me...for papers, but now we have to divorce.

"We got married after a month. I was in love with him but his parents were not okay with it. We talk occasionally. Distance has been an issue as well as the time difference. I have been in Kenya for three months now. My life is complicated but we are working on a divorce," she said.

Asked about her plans going forward, Sherlyne said she has recorded a couple of songs already and has featured in some songs done by Redsan and Wakadinali.

She is also looking to position herself for acting roles in TV shows that match her ambitions.

"I have recorded six more songs that I am about to release so you can call me an artiste. I am still a video vixen. I have done a song with Redsan and Wakadinali.

"I would like to feature on big shows, shows that match my ambitions," she said.
