Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday criticised Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya leader Raila Odinga for holding demonstrations against the government on a weekly basis.

Gachagua, who spoke at the Bandari Maritime Academy in Mombasa County on March 30, said the anti-Ruto protests have been destructive, and that ordinary Kenyans bear the brunt of the destruction.

According to Gachagua, Odinga is already wealthy, and is not struggling with basic needs as many other Kenyans do.

The deputy president said William Ruto's administration was validly elected in August 2022, and that the legal processes were followed in setting up government.

"Odinga is being disrespectful to Kenyans by presiding over the destruction of their property through the demonstrations," said Gachagua.

His remarks came on a day anti-Ruto protests were held in several parts of the country, including Nairobi, Nyanza and parts of Western Kenya.

Odinga, who led the protests in Nairobi, accused the government of highhandedness and refusal to address cost of living concerns.

Gachagua was in Mombasa to flag off Kenyan seafarers who were joining the international shipping lines.
