The Makueni County government will host the first-ever Mango Conference and Exhibition in Kenya from Tuesday, May 16 to Thursday, May 18, 2023.

The Conference will bring different stakeholders including farmers, processors and exporters who will have a platform to learn on maximizing profits, and best practices in increasing mango production and ensuring quality.

The aim will be to address the mango value chain challenges and expand the market base for the Kenyan mango by meeting market requirements and standards.

Additionally, the Conference will provide a platform to discuss possible formation of mango cooperatives within the mango producing Counties.

The theme for the event will be 'Winning Markets for Kenyan Mangoes'.

"It is key to note that this will be a rare event not only in Kenya but also for all Mango producing Countries in the world...Makueni County is the leading county in mango production both in acreage and value and therefore was chosen as the host County for the Mango Conference," reads an excerpt of the press release by the Makueni County Government.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior and others are expected to be in attendance for the event.

Kenya is ranked 15th globally producing 1.5 percent of global mango production in 2017 while it ranks 4th in Africa and first in the East African region.

Makueni is one among the leading Counties in mango production - Makueni (19 per cent), Lamu (13.9), Kilifi (7.9), and Meru (7.7).
