Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is known for his flamboyant lifestyle and larger-than-life personality, but this Valentine’s Day, he took things to a whole new level. While others were handing out roses and chocolates, Sonko decided to add a little extra surprise in hi llist of items, flavored condoms.
Dressed in a signature flashy red attire, Sonko arrived at various city streets in a convoy of red wrapped vehicles with his team carrying baskets filled with Valentine’s goodies. flowers, chocolates, bottles of wine, and an unexpected addition, colorful packs of flavoured condoms.
Passers-by gathered, some amused, others curious, as Sonko made impromptu stops, flashing his signature gold rings while addressing the crowd.
The move, he claimed, was prompted by the withdrawal of support from USAID, which had previously supplied free condoms in Kenya.
“As we commemorate Valentine's Day today, I distributed various gifts, including flowers, chocolates, wines, and even flavored condoms for protection, given that USAID is no longer with us and has withdrawn its support,” he said.
Excited Nairobians scrambled to grab the gifts, with some couples playfully selecting their preferred flavors.
People praised Sonko for his unconventional but practical gesture. Social media exploded with reactions, with many applauding his bold move while others questioned the eccentricity of his approach.
