Kenyan sensation Habida Moloney first captured our hearts with her MAMAs-winning hit Sunshine. The song dominated the charts and cemented her status as a musical powerhouse.
But beyond the music, there has always been another passion, acting. Fans got a taste of her fiery performance in Zari, the Maisha Magic Plus hit show. Now, she’s back, taking on her boldest role yet as Lorna in Showmax’s steamiest drama, 4Play.
Transitioning from music to acting has been an exciting journey, but it hasn’t come without its challenges.
Earlier this year, Habida underwent throat surgery, a terrifying experience that left her questioning whether she’d ever speak again. “I feared that I would lose my voice permanently,” she says.
“For two weeks, I couldn’t utter a word. It was scary, especially because my voice is such a huge part of who I am.”
But with determination and therapy, she found her way back. When she finally stepped onto the 4Play set, it felt like reclaiming a lost part of herself. “Getting back to acting, doing what I love most, even if it meant long hours and little sleep, it was all worth it.”
Despite her packed schedule as a singer, actress, gym enthusiast, and mother of two, she admits that balance is still an elusive goal.
“I won’t lie, I don’t have it. I’m always tired, but I’ve learned to be kind to myself. If one thing falls apart, it’s okay.”
Landing the role of Lorna in 4Play was an exhilarating moment for Habida, as acting has always been her first love. “I would wake up at 4 am for it, go all day without a break, just for the thrill of being on set,” she shares.
Much like Lorna, Habida has a strong sense of style, though her personal fashion is a mix of both comfort and glamour.
“Some days, I’m all about jeans, a classic top, and maybe a pair of heels. Other days, I’ll go for a statement piece, like a short dress,” she says. While Lorna exudes sophistication on screen, Habida’s everyday look is a little more laid-back.
But beyond music, acting, and fashion, she has another unexpected passion, lifting weights. “I used to compete in powerlifting! I can bench 60kg and deadlift 90kg,” she says. “It keeps me strong, mentally and physically.”
And as if that weren’t impressive enough, she’s now trying her hand at polo.
