The country has recorded 524 new Covid-19 positive cases and has a positivity rate of eight per cent, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has said.
Speaking at Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital on Friday, Kagwe said the country was expecting at least 13 million vaccines to deal with the virus threat.
These include 500 donations of vaccines from the US, he said.
He said the first batch of that number was expected into the country in the next 10 days.
The CS said the government was doing everything it could to stem the tide and appealed to residents to also do their part to combat the disease.
“We will do our part to ensure the second vaccine is available,” he said.
The minister spoke when he inspected new oxygen, ICU, Renal and Blood Transfusion facilities at the hospital. Meru Deputy Governor Titus Ntuchiu was present.
Ntuchiu said the devolved unit had managed to conduct 25, 600 vaccines in the first phase and had received 10, 000 more to cover the second phase, leaving a deficit of about 16, 000.
“We have pressure from those who need the second dose,” Ntuchiu said.
The county had done 6, 200 tests at its facility.
The oxygen plant with capacity will cater for Meru and supply neighbouring counties while the blood transfusion centre had the capacity to store over 12, 000 litres, which Kagwe said was crucial.
