Coast Tea broker Kimanga battles 173 golfers to lead at Nyali

Coast Tea Broker Peter Kimanga was re-energized after battling a team of 173 golfers to claim the top spot at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

The Handicap 16 Golfer that termed it all as being a lucky day after finding himself recording an excellent score of 43 stable ford points to emerge the Overall winner of the 2023 Sanlam golf tournament that brought golfers from across the Country.

“It’s good to be here at the podium talking about Sport golf and not the usual tea Business and I can assure that I shall now often be here because Iam really practicing seriously around the course to improve my game, “said Kimanga.

Last weekend’s overall winner of the Kenya women in Tourism (KAWT) golf  tournament at the same venue, handicap 5 Abubakar Mohdhar was at it again but this time emerging the Best gross winner on a seven over par 79 gross.

The Club’s former Captain Aamin Dhanji playing off handicap 20 survived on a count back score of 40 points to win the Men prize after tying on the same score with handicap19 Harpreet Sagoo who was the runners up.

The Lady’s prize was won by handicap 28 Janet Wasike on 41 points while handicap 27 Arvin Solanki on 36 points and handicap 19 Aydan Jamal with 39 points were the best senior and junior winners respectively.

Mombasa Golf Club’s handicap 26 Ken Kimundi did not go home empty handed after carding 34 points to win the Invited Coastal Clubs prize.

Sam Muraya playing off handicap 22 emerged top of his staff to win the staff prize after recording a score of 30 points and the Guest prize was claimed by handicap 26 Anthony Munyao who recorded a score of 30 points also.

His name sake handicap 30 John Muraya on 39 points and handicap 45 Joan Kimani with 42 points were the High handicapper’s men and high handicapper Lady winners respectively.

Elsewhere at the South Coast in Kwale County on the same day,Veteran golfer Hitten Kumar carded 80 gross to emerge the overall gross winner in the NCBA golf competition that attracted 120 golfers.

Japie Van Niekerk was the men's nett winner on 54 nett while Randall Adams with a count back score of 71 nett as runners up tying on the same score Graham Bowcher who was third.

Vanda Harries took the lady’s prize after emerging top with a score of 74 nett while Muthoni Boucher was the runners up with 77 nett and Lennart Rydberg on 87 nett was declared the senior winner of the day.

And at the 9 hole Machakos Country Club course also on the same day, Jackson Musomba led his team of Simon Kimatu, Ben Mumo and Francis Mbithi to podium victory with a combined score of 115 points

 in the 14th leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour that attracted 144 golfers.

“It was an amazing day today where team work, training and some luck played its roles to give us this success. We thank the sponsors and Organizers of this event and now look forward to the grand finale at Karen towards the end of this year,” said Musomba on behalf of the team.

The team of Joseph Malatu, Francis Musembi, Kyalo Munyao, and Engineer Okemwa carded a combined score of 110 points to carry the second position.

The two teams join 12 others that have already qualified for the grand finale event scheduled for next month at the Karen Country Club.

In the Individuals, handicap 54 Jemima Samuel recorded the best day’s score of 45 points to emerge the overall winner of the day.

The Men’ title was claimed by handicap 38, Anthony Gitu with a score of 42 points and handicap 38 Felistus Mativo was the lady winner after returning a score of 41 points.

The staff  prize was won by handicap 14 Ibrahim Lande on 38 points while Nicholas Okello playing off handicap 27 brought 37 points to claim the second slot.

Handicap 19 Lazarus Kemei was the Guest winner on 38 points and Jackson Musomba added another prize  winning the nearest to the pin prize.

Nyali Golf and Country Club will be next host of the 15th edition of the The KCB East Africa Golf Tour before the grand finale next month at Karen Country club course.
