Nancy Wanza, 12 years old

Do lawyers lie in court and does it mean that when a lawyer loses a case she or she is not a good lawyer?

Maina: Lawyers do not lie in court because we represent our clients based on the information they have provided us with. We believe this information given to us is credible. It’s not a matter of if a lawyer is telling the truth or lies to the court, but it’s about protecting clients by representing them well.

Abraham Rogers, ten years old

Why is it that the lawyers representing the defendant and the accused can’t win the case together?

Maina: There must be a winner and a loser depending on the arguments during case proceedings. Either way, any lawyer can win or lose in any case. However, the most important aspect is that you must act on behalf of your client to the best of your ability.

Halima Konde, 15 years old

What is a lawyer supposed to do to avoid losing a case for his or her client?

Maina: By practicing professionalism and observing standards required for a lawyer to represent a client. They have to have all supporting evidence to prove to the magistrate or judge that their client deserves favour. Although lawyers feel sad when they lose a case, there exists an option where one can appeal against the Judgment made either by judge or magistrate.

Henry Nangai, 13 years old

What does one need to consider before choosing a lawyer to represent them?

Maina: One should know which area they need representation and which area the lawyer has specialised in. A lawyer’s reputation is also important to consider. Good lawyers are perceived to be expensive, but why don’t you go for a good lawyer who will offer you good services you than going for a cheap lawyer who will grant you sub-standard services?
