New men's football champions will be crowned this afternoon (Friday) when the County Assembly Sports Association (CASA) Games comes to an end at Mombasa Sports Club.

This is after the defending champions Kakamega County were bundled out of the six-day games, that conclude tomorrow with a closing ceremony at Mama Ngina Water Front.

The immediate former champions were beaten 2-1 by Kericho County in their last preliminary match on Wednesday.

Dennis Koros and Geoffrey Koech scored a goal each for Kericho before Kakamega pulled one back through Collins Iganga.

In another match at the same venue, hosts Mombasa made it to the quarter finals after dismissing Turkana 4-0.

Charles Kitula, Tobias Samba, Nicholas Otieno and Robert Nyiro scored a goal each for the winners. The win pushed Mombasa to the quarter finals with an unbeaten run.

In chess, great brains were at work with Kwale County retaining the title they won in 2019 in Eldoret. Kwale County defeated Machakos in the hotly contested final.

In the quarter finals, Kiambu had a resounding victory after thrashing Vihiga 3-0 to make it to the semi finals where they lost to Machakos. Machakos will face defending champions Kwale in the final.

The champions dismissed Kisumu in another semifinal. In the play offs, Kisumu settled for the third slot with Kiambu finishing fourth.

Most of the events including athletics and swimming will conclude today ahead of the official closing ceremony.
