Lampard 'still pocketing Sh11 million-a-week' from Chelsea after being sacked

Chelsea are still paying Frank Lampard £75,000-per-week in wages after sacking him from his managerial post last month.

Lampard was relieved of his duties just 18 months into his tenure at Stamford Bridge following a disappointing run of defeats.

Paying off former managers is not an unusual process at Chelsea, who have changed boss ten times in as many years.

However, rather than compensate Lampard with one lump sum for the £1.8million he is due, they have instead kept him on a weekly retainer.

As reports The Sun, it is a result of a policy at the club brought in after the axing of Jose Mourinho in 2015.

It is unlikely the 42-year-old will be taking up another post before July, when the agreement is due to end.

He has most recently been linked with the permanent vacancy at Bournemouth, but Lampard is not interested in taking up the role as he is currently happy to be on a break from football.

It was only two years ago that Chelsea were ordered to pay £9m in compensation to Antonio Conte after his sacking, with costs eventually spiralling to £26m including all his staff.

Fortunately for the Blues' owners some of that was offset by the £10m package agreed with Juventus, who appointed Maurizio Sarri as their new manager prior to Lampard being handed the role.

Thomas Tuchel is the latest man in the hotseat under Roman Abramovich and has penned an 18-month deal with the option for a further year dependent on performance.

Speaking about his contract, Tuchel said: "At first it was a concern, I was a little like, 'Oh, why 18 months?

"But after only one minute I thought, 'What does it change?' What does it change if they give me four and a half years? They could sack me anyway.

"If they are not happy with me, they will sack me anyway. And if they gave me four and a half years they would put in a clause that when they sack me, they'll pay me."
