Kenyan Premier League side Thika United is set to acquire a new name if plans by Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria go through.

Moses Kuria has initiated a process to rename the Thika based club to Mount Kenya United in order to attract a larger fan base across the Mount Kenya region.

Kuria made the announcement on Thursday after watching the team beat Ushuru FC.

The controversial MP also pledged a hefty amount for the team if they retain their place in the KPL.

“Thika United is our team, as a leader I am appealing to my people to support this team and we’ve got huge cash prices for the boys if they beat Ushuru on Sunday and retain their place in the KPL,” he said.
