Unlike last season, Gor Mahia have taken their off-season preparations a notch higher with quality build up matches that have left coach Frank Nuttall impressed.

Gor Mahia will take part in the CAF Champions League this season apart from trying to successfully defend their league title.

The team has posted poor results in the last two editions of the Champions League with inadequate preparations cited as one of the reasons for it.

However, this is likely to change considering the kind of preparation the team is involved in.

Gor Mahia have so far played against St George’s of Ethiopia and are currently in Sudan where they are scheduled to take on Al-Hilal and Al-Khartoum in two friendly matches. Nuttall said on Monday night before the team left for Sudan that these are the kind of matches he would have wanted in the pre-season, but admitted it was not easy building a new team after the loss of some key players.

The club has already lost Meddie Kagere while Michael Olunga is expected to leave for Sweden this week.
In a related development, Assistant Captain Musa Mohamed has finally extended his stay at the club with a two-year contract.

The player signed a new deal on Monday after resolving differences over his signing fee.

Assistant Secretary General Ronald Ngala said all issues between the two parties were resolved enabling the defender to extend his stay at the club.

“We are happy that it has finally been done. It is unfortunate it took long, but now we can focus on other targets before the season begins. We are still in the market as well as trying to tie down several players whose contracts have expired,” Ngala said.

Gor Mahia jetted out of the country to Sudan on Monday where they are scheduled to face Al-Hilal and Al Khartoum in friendly matches as they prepare for their Champions League first round match against CNAPS of Madagascar.

Meanwhile, Rwanda skipper Jacques Tuyisenge says he is thrilled and excited to have joined Gor Mahia where he hopes to make a mark when he joins them after the ongoing Chan tournament, adds Supersport.

The Rwandan has been signed to replace his compatriot Kagere.

“I am very happy to have joined Gor Mahia, which is one of the biggest teams,” he said.
