The Government, through the Energy Regulation Commission (ERC), has reduced fuel charges for two consecutive months.
However, public transport operators have not reduced fares.
Although the transport sector is very keen to hike fares immediately fuel prices are revised upwards, the same speed is not seen when the prices are reduced.
The same case is experienced immediately the Budget is read by the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury. The business sector is quick to increase prices of commodities but very hesitant to lower prices of commodities that are subjected to reliefs claiming that they must first clear their stocks.
All sectors should act with the same speed to reduce charges when prices are revised downwards.
