With the advent of devolution, the youth voted in the most young candidates in the history of Kenya.
But so far these youthful leaders have been disappointing. Youthful leaders some of whom didn't even own houses leave alone cars are now living lavishly, drinking heavily and scheming for opportunities to embezzle county funds. They make money from sitting allowances or being 'bought' to pass bills and no confidence votes against governors.
Most of them are performing poorly in service delivery and in their oversight roles at county and national government levels. These leaders should be advocating for a bigger allocation of government tenders from 30 per cent to 70 per cent.
They can also champion policies to reduce taxes and bottlenecks involved in registering a company.
