Water is important for our health and amazing for our appearance. It helps to maintain healthy nails, youthful skin, and chap-free lips. Water flushes out toxins, and keeps cells hydrated, leaving your skin radiant and glowing from the inside out. If you don’t like the taste of plain water, here are some recipes that will keep you hydrated throughout the day.

1. Lemon water:

Drinking this first thing every morning helps to flush out your liver and kidneys, which are your body’s main detoxification organs. It also alkalises your body thereby improving the appearance of your skin. You can drink lemon water when it’s hot or cold.

2. Fennel water:

This is good for women as it helps to balance your hormones. This leads to fewer breakouts and clearer skin. Put a teaspoon of fennel seeds in a container and add boiling water. Allow to cool and drink throughout the day. Fennel also helps to maintain fresh breath.

3. Ginger water:

Ginger is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties therefore it is excellent for soothing irritated skin. Combine water with chopped ginger in a pan, bring to the boil, and simmer for 5 – 10 minutes. Strain and drink as a hot drink. You can keep adding water to the chopped ginger for up to 3 days.

4. Cucumber water:

Cucumber contains silica which keeps your skin and muscles healthy. If your cucumber is organic, slice it with the skin and put into a jug of water. Let it steep for at least one hour, and then drink throughout the day. At the end of the day, you can place the cucumber slices on your eyes to soothe them and minimize dark circles.

5. Mint water:

Mint is detoxifying therefore it aids in improving your complexion. It also helps with maintaining fresh breath. Put mint leaves in a jug of water and leave to infuse for a few hours. Refrigerate and drink for up to three days.

6. Rose water:

Take a rose, rinse it, and place the petals in a saucepan of water. Simmer on low heat for 5 minutes and then strain into a jar. Use the rose water as a toner to help tighten pores, maintain pH balance, and control excess oil production.

7. Apple cider vinegar water:

A potent anti-fungal, digestive stimulant and pH corrector, apple cider vinegar creates excellent skin when taken in water first thing in the morning. You can also use this powerful multi-tasker directly on your skin. Just one teaspoon of ACV in half a glass of water will result in a natural skin freshener and toner. Mix up a fresh batch and use cotton wool to wipe the solution onto your freshly cleansed face. Use a downward or circular motion to ensure that you have removed all traces of dirt and makeup.
