Bathroom bliss

If your bathroom only has the bare minimum, it is a high time you upgraded it... but it does not mean you break the bank.

You simply need to refresh some existing elements and add a few knick-knacks to make an amazing difference to its overall appearance.

1. Keep your bathroom clean. The ceilings, walls and cabinets must be clean. Use the right detergent to get rid of grime and rejuvenate the paintwork on your walls. Use washing powder to clean grout between the tiles. Thoroughly clean the sink and the bathtub (if you have one) and finish with lime scale remover. Use a soft rag to buff-dry taps and metal handles.

2. Your bathroom needs art. Choose carefully; not all art will stand toothpaste splatters and high humidity given off when one takes a hot shower. Get art with simple, inexpensive frames and turn your bathroom into an art gallery of sort.

3. There are many items you need and use in your bathroom daily. Get creative with your storage for things like soap, make-up, hair products, antiseptics, and perfumes among other items.

Have drawers and cupboards to store these and some beautiful baskets for extra tissue paper, towels, and laundry.

Ensure your storage is of good design and easy to maintain. Once you store your items, the bathroom should be able to stay tidy.

4.  Have additional shelves for products that you frequently use.

5.  For your bathrobes, get unique hooks and place them on the back of the door. Other hooks can also be used to hang your tongs and blow-dryer.

6.  To avoid people using your bathing towel to dry their hands and pulling them off the rail, have a separate towel holder for hand towels.

7. If your bathroom has plain boring tiles, you don’t have to dismantle them to buy new colourful ones. Simply buy tattoos for tiles and stick them on your tiles. If you live in a rented house, these tile tattoos are for you. You don’t spend much on them and you can also easily remove them. What’s more, they come in a variety of designs and colours.

8. Get colourful bathroom mats and rugs to brighten up the bathroom.

9.  Mirrors make great art for the bathroom even as they serve other purposes like make-up application. They make the bathroom appear larger and also reflect light making the bathroom seem brighter.

10. Shower curtains add pop of colour, artwork and personality into your bathroom. Choose colours that blend with your bathroom.

11. Worn out taps look dilapidated. Replace them with new ones to instantly modernise your bathroom. These and other bathroom accessories and fixtures also come in a wide variety of designs.

12. Replacing the head of your shower will boost your suite. Shower-heads tend to get clogged with lime scale which reduces the amount of water that comes through it.

13.  Get small accessories into your bathroom. Beautiful and unique toothbrush caddies, soap dishes and towels will add impact into your room. More decorative items like candles, house plants and flower vases will add instant pop.
