A court in Nakuru has allowed police to detain two people suspected of stealing goods worth Sh15 million from a wine and spirits import and exporting company.

On Friday evening, Nakuru Chief Magistrate Bildad Ochieng allowed the police to detain Polycarp Oketch, and Emmanuel Onyango at Nakuru Police Station for three days.

The duo worked as salespersons and a driver respectively. They allegedly stole the goods during the Christmas holiday.

This followed their detention at the station from January 14, 2023, when they were arrested.

"The two will be presented on Monday, in court for plea taking. At the moment, the court extends their detention with three more days," he ruled.

Ochieng heard that the police needed to obtain a statement from Prime Bank, which would help them in their investigations.

The investigating officer Wilfred Kinyua told the magistrate that they needed the bank statement to prove how the two transacted after getting away with the stock.

"We are waiting for the evidence from the bank. It contains transactions linked to the suspects," said Kinyua.

He said he needed to record statements from the company's suspects and owners.

"I need to have them interrogated, record statements and I also require an audit report and their employment documents from the owner of the company," he said.

He insisted that they are a flight risk because they have no known fixed aboard and had escaped after the alleged offence.

Kinyua said he is investigating stealing by servant offence that allegedly occurred between November 2022 and January 2023 at the company located at Section 58 within Nakuru City.

He said preliminary investigations had linked the two to the offence.

The two were arrested on January 14 this year, within the area where they were allegedly hiding after committing the offence.

"I pray to court to grant me two more days to continue holding them at Nakuru Police Station until we get the statement," he said.
