The holidays are a joyous time of year but can be a challenge for working parents. However, with a bit of creativity and some thoughtful planning, you can ensure your children have a wonderful holiday even when you’re away at work.

Enroll them for holiday classes: With almost two and a half months at home, holiday camps and workshops are a fantastic way to keep your children engaged in fun and educational activities.

These programs often offer a variety of options from art and crafts to sports, robotics and dance. Research local options and choose one that aligns with your child’s interests and age group.

Get a minder: Consider hiring extra help like a babysitter or nanny who can watch over your children when you’re not home.

Set up playdates: You probably have a WhatsApp group where you connect with other parents so put it into good use. Reach out to other parents and arrange playdates with your child’s friends.

Create a holiday calendar: Before the holiday season officially begins, sit down with your children and create a holiday calendar. Include a mix of activities they will enjoy such as movie nights, reading sessions, outdoor adventures and even a visit to the upcountry.

Explore educational apps and games: There is an abundance of educational apps and games available for children on tablets and smartphones. While it’s important to limit screen time even though they don’t have school the next day, these tools can be valuable for keeping your children engaged and learning.

Hobbies: Long school breaks are a great time for children to explore new hobbies and interests. Encourage them to pick up an instrument, start a craft project or learn a new skill.
