Willis Raburu: I have lost 30kgs since undergoing bariatric surgery

 Citizen TV host Willis Raburu.

Media personality Willis Raburu has shared impressive before and after pictures of his weight loss journey months after undergoing gastric bypass surgery.

Through social media, the 10 over 10 show host described his experience as the greatest investment he has ever made.

"The greatest investment you can ever make is on you! When I decided to do Bariatric Surgery I was so scared, but I did it. Will share the story here soon. 30kgs down so far. The journey continues," he wrote.

Willis made the decision to undergo gastric bypass surgery, 'a minimally invasive surgery that helps you lose weight by changing how your stomach and small intestine handle the food you eat' at the beginning of the year after being informed he was at risk of developing life-threatening conditions due to his then massive weight.

"I went for a gastric bypass. By the time I was going for the surgery I was 164kgs. I needed it because my blood pressure was high and my cholesterol was high. It was now a matter of taking care of my health because now I had a junior and also just for myself," he said.

Although the procedure has become highly popular among celebrities, Willis explained his choice to undergo surgery was solely for his health benefits and not for popularity as a section of netizens purport.

According to the father of two, fixing the weight issue was a matter of urgency before things got out of hand.

"You have to love yourself enough to know that you need help and there is no shame in it by the way. Because people always attach such procedures to shame. It is expensive but the gains are evident. If you pay whatever you pay now and in the future let's say I was to get, God forbid a heart attack, the money I would pay in hospital just for three days and you getting proper care, you burn out money very fast," he added.

At the beginning of the year, Willis took to social media to announce to his fans that he had embarked on a six months weight loss journey and was excited to share his results at the end of the challenge.

He however did not complete the challenge as he admitted his results kept fluctuating.

"I finally get to talk about this thing that has been heavy on my mind! I admit I need help with my weight. I feel like I need to do it for me, not for people. I have a six-month target. It's going to be an interesting six months. We are going to be praying against calories."
