Elseba Awour Kokeyo popularly known as Cebbie Koks Nyasego, sister to singer Akothee was put on blast by a blogger over allegations of dating a married man. She talks about the allegations.

Q: How would you describe yourself?

A: I am an ordinary woman, your ordinary next-door girl. I was brought up in the village and went to school in the village just like most of our rural girls. Like every village girl, I was brought up in a close-knit family. My dad and mum were working-class and they brought me up just like rural parents bring up their children. I fetched water from the river, firewood from the bushes and cooked on the three stone fire-places, eating ordinary African meals. Like your typical woman, I work hard and aspire for greatness in my social life and career, to be comfortable and inspire younger women who look up to for some inspiration. I am a leader in my own right.

Q: How did you and your fiancé meet?

A: I will not go into the details but we met at a social event.

Q: What drew you two to each other?

A: You will agree with me that he has quite the looks and he got the guts. He approached on the dance floor and requested if he could dance with me. He’s got the moves and I am also quite a graceful dancer if you didn’t know. We chatted and I think we developed some chemistry. After that we exchanged contacts and got talking, a meeting over coffee here and there, we took interest in one another and as they say, the rest is history.

Q: What did you think of the proposal? Did you expect something big?

A: Well, the proposal was a huge surprise. I didn’t expect it at all. What you might not know is that I am a conservative girl. It will surprise you, contrary to popular opinion, that I am a very conservative girl. I mean, we might as well have gotten to the next level without a glamorous proposal and it would not be a big deal because that is what I am used to. I am still glad that he did it in such a romantic way. I would say, he exceeded my expectations because I didn’t expect a proposal in that format, let alone a bigger one.

Q: How have things been since the allegations posted by blogger Edgar Obare

A: I will not pretend that it was easy for me. It was very tough especially because it was largely taken out of context. Thankfully, I have developed thick skin from my previous experience with cyberbullying. It is bad and victims lapse into a depression. Some even commit suicide. I survived it and as they say, what does not kill you only makes you stronger. I am stronger.

This cyberbullying experience gave me a lot of visibility that I had not bargained for so I chose to take the opportunity and launch a business. When all is said and done however, I wish to tell genuine people who like me don’t judge others that I am not a bad person as Edgar Obare tried to suggest. I have my morals intact. I do good. I am a loving soul. I am compassionate. I am good girl generally but I am not a saint.

Q: How are you handling that?

A: So say, while Obare’s allegations were difficult for me to deal with, it helped that I have thick skin and it also helped that I know it was all taken out of context. I took solace from the fact that I had not done anything extraordinarily immoral if I may call it that and that coupled with the strong social support system including family and genuine friends helped a lot. I didn’t retreat or hide and I can handle it all.
