Producer Kevin Provoke and his project partner Bilha Ngaruiya have denied allegations that they stole the name ‘I Made Kenya’ from a Kenyan music producers, audio developers and engineers of Kenya WhatsApp group.
“I Made Kenya challenge is an initiative for young producers to showcase their talent and we are not benefiting from it. Amin Virani who claims it is his concept is not even a producer.
“He has not produced any song. I don’t remember when he was nominated as the chairman of the WhatsApp group,” Bilha said, adding that, “First, the group was formed by Sospeter Moses, a producer and not Amin. Second, it is a challenge for young producers and not a business or a company so, you cannot steal a challenge as Virani said.
“We are not doing it for any financial gain, but for young producers to benefit from the challenge.”
However, Virani told Heads Up that Kevin Provoke approached him as the chairman of the group and asked if they could use the name ‘I Made Kenya’.
“I was approached by Provoke if they could use the name of the group and I agreed that as long as they could push the agenda of the group for music producers, audio developers and engineers.
“But when they started the challenge, they side-lined the group members who were the owners of the initiative. I told them to stop using the group’s name since it is not theirs but they refused.”
