Her special recognition as Groove Song writer of the year award was perhaps an affirmation that Jemimah Thiongo's music had surpassed generations and was still well alive amongst her fans.
But her calm demeanor and humility even as she went to receive her awards spoke volumes. Her's had not been an easy ride and despite staying away from the limelight for a long time, she finally gathered the courage to reveal her life story and narrate her many encounters with death.
After losing four siblings to death in different circumstances, Jemimah admitted that the most shocking death experience happened during one of her video shoots with Rose Jeffa of Burundi who had brought her young baby and a baby sitter along to the shoot. Sadly as Rose conversed with Jemimah, the baby slipped from her baby sister's hands and passed on. After the incident, Jemimah felt like death was haunting her. Unable to keep up she resigned from music and retreated to her house where she spent many months in solitude before making an appearance in the musical scene.
