'I work for a dating app and these are the biggest red flags to look out for on profiles'

When it comes to dating apps, you never quite know who you're going to meet or whether they really are who they say they are.

But it turns out there are people who might be able to help with this.

We recently came across a TikTok user who claims to work in customer support for a dating app, in one of her videos she explained how she helped a user on the app find out if she was being catfished - and they made a jaw-dropping discovery.

The user, who posts under @sydneyplus, has also been sharing other tidbits about her job, including some red flags to look out for on dating profiles.

In a recent video, she shared four things to look out for on a potential match's profile that could spell trouble.

She said: "How to detect dating app red flags, by someone who actually works at a dating app."

The first red flag in her book was all to do with the photos on the profile - and one, in particular, is a warning.

"If he's standing in front of a nice car, eight times out of 10 it's not his," Sydney explains.

She continues to say that if their bio describes them as an 'entrepreneur', 'writer' or 'musician' you should take that to mean you're going to be splitting the bill at dinner.

The third and fourth red flags also involve what's written on his profile.

She adds: "If he says 'my mom is my world' he'll either ghost you or propose within a month, there's no in-between.

"And if he's looking for 'smth casual', it's not worth the tears sis."

The video has since been viewed over 70,000 times, garnering thousands of likes and hundreds of comments, with many people sharing their own red flags to watch out for.

One person replied: "When the bio says 'I'm looking for a woman with a sense of humour', he probably means I'm going to tell you misogynistic jokes and expect you to laugh."

Another said you should be concerned if "the dating profile is all selfies or pictures from the same day".

A third wrote: "Not here for hookups 100% means he's here for hookups."

Someone else posted: "If he complains at all in his profile or calls himself a nice guy."

This comes after a fellow TikTok user went viral for sharing her opinions on men splitting the bill on first dates.

The woman, who shares dating advice on TikTok under the name @ask.nelly, claims men should never split the bill on a first date, especially if they were the one that made the first move.

"Men should never let a woman pay for a first date because if you're asking a girl out and then going dutch, it just shows you're cheap," Nelly proclaims in the video.

She continues to say that as well as making you look cheap, it can also make you seem as if you "weren't raised right", "not chivalrous" or "you're dating outside of your price range".

"By that I mean you're taking a girl out on a date you can't afford to do, so instead of trying to flex on a nice dinner, you're better off taking her on a picnic in the park.

"And even the most progressive girls who insist they split it with you and say they don't mind... do mind.

"Not because they can't afford it, but because it shows us your character and if you're a girl and you've paid for first dates, I want to tell you that he ain't it sis."
