Naomi Campbell, supermodel extraordinaire and Kenya’s tourism ambassador is a new mother.
The 50 year old alarmed fans and followers on her Twitter and Instagram handles when she posted a photograph cradling a tiny infant’s feet, attached to a telling caption.
“A beautiful little blessing has chosen me to be her mother. So honoured to have this gentle soul in my life there are no words to describe the lifelong bond that I now share with you my angel. There is no greater love,” wrote Campbell.
The surprise news comes four years after the supermodel said in an interview that although she “thinks about children all the time”, there was no rush to start a family.
“I’d love to have kids. I don’t discount anything in life. I love kids and always will. When I’m around children, I become a child myself. That’s the little girl I don’t ever want to lose,” Campbell told Vogue Arabia in 2018.
The renowned model did not accompany the news with any further information, instead letting the post accrue hundreds of thousands of likes within minutes.
Her celebrity friends penned their congratulatory messages on the comments, going from well wishes to hints of shock.
“OMG! Congrats mama! Love you,” wrote actress Ryan Destiny.
“So happy for you,” wrote content creator Patricia Bright.
“Oh my goodness, congrats lady! What a blessing!” wrote actress Zoe Saldana.
Famous fashion designer Marc Jacobs also wished the new mom well, adding, “Today is the day? How absolutely incredible. What a wonderful mother you will be. Blessings all around.”
Campbell has kept the motherhood journey so far private, only revealing the first pictures of the baby, without mentioning who the father is.
The supermodel was appointed Kenya’s tourism ambassador in January 2021, with the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala saying that she will help promote Kenya as an ideal tourism and travel destination to the world.
