Wearing socks to bed seems to be something people either love or hate - but now a doctor has claimed that keeping your feet covered can actually help you fall asleep quicker.

Doctor Jess Andrade has gained more than one million followers on TikTok as she shares her advice to help you get a better night's sleep, as well as answering viewers' medical questions.

Her most recent video titled 'Socks to bed?' has racked up a staggering 17 million views as she explained why it can improve your sleep.

The doctor said: "So let's talk about people who wear socks to bed. Wearing socks makes your feet warm and this opens up the blood vessels that cools the body down.

"The body being cool tells the brain that it's time for bed. So actually, people that wear socks tend to fall asleep faster."

The video was captioned: "I wear socks to bed so don't come at me I'm not weird", but it didn't deter sock haters from taking to the comments.

One joked: "You forgot to mention people that wear socks to bed tend to be serial killers."

A second wrote: "Ok, I'm a fan of nonsense but socks to bed... you've crossed the line."

But others were all for it, as another argued back: "I can't sleep without socks. This is perfectly normal."

Dr Andrade also shared the 10-3-2-1-0 method to help you sleep better at night, using each number as a cutoff point to help you unwind before bed.

She advises 10 hours before bed you should stop your intake of caffeine as that's how long it takes to leave your system, and in the 3 hours before you sleep you shouldn't have any food or alcohol.

In the two hours before bed you shouldn't do any more work to help your mind unwind, and you should stop looking at screens or devices with an hour to go.

Zero is the number of times you should hit the snooze button in the morning. Good luck.
