Singer Amani opens up on struggles to conceive and miscarriage

Legendary Kenyan musician Cecilia Wairimu better known by her stage name Amani has revealed that she miscarried in 2019.

Taking to Instagram, the singer shared a photo that she described as sentimental and narrated how hurt and disappointed she was on losing the baby after trying to conceive for a while.

“When I took this picture last year, I was pregnant but lost it. It hurt but, at that moment, I chose not to grumble or murmur or get angry. Though disappointed, I chose not to give up and lose faith,” the singer said.

The Upendo singer added that losing her pregnancy, did not kill her dreams of becoming a mother and kept trying.

“I had conceived after failing to conceive for a while. So, I realized that my season had come and it was just a matter of time. I thanked God in advance and the following month I conceived again and this time the pregnancy was sustained,” she added.

Together with her Nigerian husband Chinasa Udeala, the singer welcomed a baby about two months ago and as she now looks back while holding her baby, the singer noted that she marvels at the wonderful gift God gave her.

“Today I hold my gift from God in my arms. My baby. It is still so surreal. Yahweh is a faithful God who is always on time. All the glory goes back to him,” she said.

Amani and Chinasa got married in 2017 at a private wedding, details of which have remained a secret long after the ceremony.

Opening up during an interview, the now mother of one revealed she was indeed married stating that she chose not to post anything about it.

“It’s a done deal, I’m already married. I’m someone’s wife now. I know many are waiting to see a wedding but I’m one very private person. That’s why you don’t see me doing interviews in my house or other intrusive stuff like that,” she said.

Insisting that she is a very secretive person, the secular turned gospel singer revealed that she intentionally chose to keep her relationship off the public eye to protect her husband and his family.

“I am very secretive and that was intentional. After being in the limelight for too long, I felt that there are some things I needed to keep to myself especially those that are dear to me. When you make your marriage public, there are families involved, his family and my family, I don’t want to put them out there. That’s just me though,” she said.

During her days in the secular world, the award-winning artiste featured in some of the best-known Kenyan songs with the likes of Nameless in the classic club-banger Ninanoki and also released Tamani, Missing my Baby and Tonight.

In 2010, she was featured alongside Ali Kiba, Fally Ipupa, 2face Idibia and Navio in a song written and produced by R Kelly, Hands Across the World.
