The national basketball men team plays the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) today in the finals of the Fiba AfroCan tournament in Mali. The Kenyan Morans beat Morocco 96-66 in the semi-finals on Thursday evening to set a date with DRC who knocked out Angola 84-78 in their semi-final tie. Enroute to the finals, the Kenyans had beaten other top basketball nations like Tunisia, Nigeria and Ivory Coast.
The last time the Kenyan men team participated in the Africa Championship was in 1993 in Kasarani, where they lost to Senegal in the semis, but to see them back on top in the continent is good news for sports in Kenya. While we will cheer on the Kenyans to beat the Congolese today, their show in Mali has shown us that all our sports teams need support to bring glory to Kenya.
