Protect Charity Ngilu, leaders tell President Uhuru Kenyatta

Machakos, Kenya: MPs from Ukambani have pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to protect Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu against hostile colleagues who want her sacked.

MPs Kisoi Munyao (Mbooni), Patrick Makau (Mavoko), Itwiku Mbai (Masinga) and Katatha Maweu (Kangundo) said Ngilu should be left to discharge her duties without interference.

The MP also pleaded with Leader of Majority Aden Duale to prevail upon Jubilee legislators to pardon and support the Cabinet Secretary in her work.

They said although Ngilu may have erred in the cause of discharging her duties, that should not be the basis of forcing her out of office.

Not an angel

“To err is human and the Land Cabinet Secretary is not an angel. She is bound to make mistakes like anyone else can,” said Kisoi.

The MPs spoke to The Standard after attending Machakos Bishop Martin Kivuva’s 10th Episcopate Anniversary at the Mbumbuni Holy Family Catholic Church in Kisau.

Kivuva reiterated the need for elected leaders to embrace unity, which he said was key to taking the country to the next level.

On Friday during the launch of the Machakos City, four other MPs petitioned President Kenyatta to pardon Ngilu over the ‘gross misconduct’ allegations levelled against her.
