Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has announced a temporary disruption in its oncology services following an unexpected technical failure of its Linear Accelerator (LINAC) Elekta machine, a key component in the treatment of cancer patients.

In a statement released by Acting Chief Executive Officer Dr. William Sigilai, the hospital assured the public that it had immediately activated referral protocols to ensure continuity of care for affected patients.

“We recognize the critical importance of uninterrupted oncology services and have taken swift action to minimize the impact on our patients,” said Dr. Sigilai.

At the same time,  KNH confirmed that its Cobalt radiotherapy machine, which had previously been out of service, is now fully operational and ready to support ongoing treatment efforts.

The hospital also reported significant progress in the procurement of a new LINAC machine, with the tendering process already at an advanced stage. The new equipment is expected to restore full oncology services in the shortest time possible.

KNH reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high-quality, compassionate care and expressed gratitude to patients and stakeholders for their continued patience and understanding during this period.
