Police looking for machete wielding husband after attacking wife

Webuye police are hunting for a man who attacked his wife with a machete and fled leaving her fighting for her life.

The suspect identified as Natembeya is said to have attacked his wife, a mother of four at Namarambi Village, Webuye East Constituency, Bungoma County. The June 4 incident left Mary Natembeya fighting for her life in hospital.

Their differences, according to sources, ensued after the victim, Mary had attended a funeral of a close neighbour against husband’s wishes.

“My in-law had gone to a funeral when her husband trailed her up to where she was and asked her to accompany him back home, she refused and said that she would spend a night vigil at the funeral until morning. That is when her husband to leave for home alone,” Natembeya’s sister said.

Adding: “And the next morning, when Mary returned home accompanied by her friends, she prepared her for school but a few minutes later, her husband wielded a machete(Panga) injuring her.”

The family members who rushed her to the nearby Bakhita Dispensary in Misikhu said, on arrival, they were referred to Lugulu Mission Hospital for specialised treatment.

The superintendent at the facility Dr. Ezekiel Waguoma who received the patient confirmed receiving the female patient who was bleeding from multiple cuts, “We cleaned the wounds, arrested the bleeding and stitched her and now she is stabilised,” he said.

The hospital reported that she had sustained deep cuts in the skull, both hands and the right shoulder (precisely posterior side).

The suspect is still on the run and the family now fears that he might return and cause more damage at home.
