Concerns raised after a man is carjacked and goes missing

A man reportedly abducted by four gunmen three weeks ago is still missing.

Tolbert Odhiambo Ouma, who had pending criminal cases in court, was last seen on February 7 in Ruaka as he left a supermarket.

Witnesses said Ouma was abducted at about at 3pm. His car, a Toyota Harrier, was blocked by a Toyota Axio and a Toyota Fielder as he drove out of the supermarket compound.

Four men armed with rifles came out, pulled Ouma from of his car and bundled him into one of the cars and sped off.

Eric Ochanda, Mr Ouma’s brother-in-law, said the family had been searching for him without success.

“We have searched everywhere. Even his close friends have no information about where Ouma could be,” Mr Ochanda said.

Ouma’s wife, Joy Odhiambo, said they had reported the matter at Karuri Police Station in Ruaka, near Banana, where the family lives.

She said the last time she spoke to her husband was the day he was abducted. She said she believed Ouma was carjacked.

Joy said her husband had said some people were following him.

“He was carjacked, that is what I am sure of. The police are telling us the usual things — they are investigating,” Joy said.

Ouma, who owns a salon and runs a matatu business, was last year arrested for alleged involvement in burglaries in Kilimani, Kileleshwa, Lavington, Riverside, Muthaiga and Westlands. The cases are pending in court.

Police claimed Ouma was part of a gang that had been terrorising residents in the areas for the past three years.
