Four years ago, my university graciously hosted Prof Chris Lukorito Wanjala (pictured) to celebrate his 70th birthday. It was a first of its kind because Kenyans are notorious for celebrating the achievements of our gallant sons and daughters only in death. The colloquium in honour of Prof Chris Wanjala was held on April 26, 2014, and it reflected on the state of literary criticism in East Africa.
