Northampton Town announce the appointment of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as their new manager on a 3 year contract.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, 45, began his managerial career with Royal Antwerp in 2013, leading them to a 7th place finish in the Belgian Second Division before turning down the offer of a new contract in order to work in England.

As a player, Hasselbaink scored nine goals in 23 appearances for the Netherlands, while at club level he played for a number of clubs including Leeds United, Athletico Madrid, Chelsea and Middlesbrough, scoring nearly 200 goals in 468 senior games.


In his first season at Chelsea, he scored 23 goals in 35 league appearances finishing the season as the winner of the Premier League Golden Boot.

In the second season he managed his 23 goals was one fewer than Golden Boot winner Thierry Henry of Arsenal.

In 2004/04 season, he helped Chelsea finish the season in second place and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League; Hasselbaink played in both legs of the semi-final defeat to AS Monaco, as Chelsea lost 5–3 on aggregate.

He was appointed the manager of Burton Albion in November 2014, with Albion 5th in League 2.

He led them to the League 2 title in 2014/15 and guided the Brewers to the top of League 1 in November 2015 when he was appointed manager of Queens Park Rangers having recorded a fantastic 61% win ratio at the Pirelli Stadium.

The former Blues forward has an average win ratio of 45% in more than 100 games as a manager in England.

He will be introduced to the media in a news conference at Sixfields on Tuesday.
