In the wake of rampant tactics employed by various counties to ensure mass voter registration, Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu has thrown his weight behind the course calling upon youth who disagree with his leadership to register as voters to oust him.
"If you want or don't want me as your governor just saying it does not cut it. You need to register as a voter to decide who leads you in the next five years to come failure of which others will choose a leader for you. Let us all exercise our right to vote," said Governor Mruttu on Saturday .
Speaking during a public participation forum in Taveta 140 youths in the area lamented of their details missing from the records despite registering as voters in January 2016.
" We have visited IEBC offices several times, the officers say our records are yet to be updated. It beats logic that records of some of those we registered with can be found, why are ours missing?" exclaimed Sowene a youth in Taveta.
Meanwhile, as president Uhuru Kenyatta calls upon chiefs to be more proactive in circulating IDs governor Mruttu adds that his administration will provide fuel for chiefs motorbikes to ensure the effectiveness of this exercise.
IEBC is currently supporting chiefs to sensitize the community in a bid to improve voter registration to attain the 6 million new registration target.
