A Sh3.96 billion mall owned by the Lake Basin Development Authority could be auctioned over a Sh2.5 billion loan, two MPs have said.

Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi and his Nyando counterpart Fred Outa claimed the Treasury was dragging its feet on bailing out the parastatal, and that powerful individuals were already positioning themselves to buy the mall should it be put up for sale in order to repay the Cooperative Bank loan.

The project was conceived in 1978 but was abandoned in 1982, over what the MPs claim to be political.
