Police to blame for mob justice

A few weeks I stumbled upon a curious case of a young man who was incinerated on a foot path along Nyeri View Estate for allegedly thieving a Dedan Kimathi University of Technology’s student’s property. The repellant image of the torched thief was an indicator of the level of reprobating jurisprudence. It exposed the multifaceted troubles facing this nation. The men and women of this country are facing the challenge of insecurity.

While there are legally established systems to handle cases of larceny in Kenya, the citizenry have resorted to unorthodox ways of dispensing justice by taking it into their own hands. This is common in the country sides or the suburbs. The failure of law enforcement agencies and the judiciary in executing their mandate have birthed moral policing and mob justice. These days people take up matters into their own hands. It is a dangerous trend in society.
