The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) should be applauded for its work. CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge has brought a lot of sanity in the banking sector and ensured that it is no longer business as usual.
While appearing before the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday, he said CBK would continue with its work despite the threats its officials have been receiving from certain quarters over forensic audit in the recently closed Dubai, Imperial and Chase Bank (re-opened).
His efforts will go a long way to restore public confidence in CBK. This will at least reduce corrupt dealings and further help build on governance principles, which the private sector is currently keen on and further help the banking sector that is key for economic growth.
I encourage Kenyans and key institutions to support CBK in its efforts to defeat banking cartels.
Without sanity in the banking sector, scandals bigger than the Goldenberg will be witnessed and lifetime fortunes of hard working Kenyans and investors will go down the drain.
